"Having been at Newnham continues to give me a unique sense of pride at being part of such an important college - one that is unusually lacking in pretension, yet hugely inspirational." Anna Jones Rodriguez

The Kennedy building was built in 1906,  to accommodate the growing number of academic staff, and so unlike the other main buildings, does not have its own dining hall (students dined in their own building until the early sixties, with the Vice-Principal for their own hall presiding). Its name commemorates Marion Kennedy (1836-1914), who had been honorary Secretary of the College from 1880 until 1904.

Mark Girouaud describes Kennedy and Peile (completed 1910) as being "drier than the earlier buildings, but still very handsome".
