Living Costs

The maintenance figure, as quoted in the section on your fees, is the absolute minimum estimate from the University of Cambridge of your likely basic living costs and personal expenses. It is budgeted to cover rent/accommodation, food, domestic bills, books, travel around Cambridge and personal computing expenses.

Living costs will vary on your lifestyle but a reasonable budget – after rent is taken care of – would be £70 per week to cover expenses including food but some students will be more frugal. Everything in Cambridge is a short walk or a bike ride away so transport costs are minimal and food in the College Buttery is heavily subsidised. Newnham offers generous financial support towards a range of expenses, including book grants, research expenses, conference and equipment costs as well as non-academic activities such as sport and music.
