Scholarships and fundsAwards for which Roll Members may be eligibleResearch Fellowships (stipendiary or non-stipendiary) The College offers three-year research fellowships from the beginning of the academic year. Further particulars can be obtained from the Principal’s Secretary.
The Phyllis and Eileen Gibbs Travelling Fellowship assists women graduates who have considerable experience of research, for fieldwork outside the British Isles (and normally not within their own countries of residence), in biology, archaeology, social anthropology or sociology. Further particulars can be obtained from the Principal’s Secretary.
Travelling Scholarships can help to fund a scholarly project or further course of study abroad. Typical awards range from £400 to £600; applications are made in April. For further information, contact the Tutorial Office.
The Dr Margaret Speight Fund helps graduates without prior medical training who wish to begin studying at any medical school. Applications are made in April. For further information, contact the Tutorial Office.
The R M Jackson Fund helps undergraduates or graduates wishing to begin further education in Law, whether or not they are studying or have studied Law as a first degree. Applications are made in April. For further information, contact the Tutorial Office.
The Margaret Sylvia Kemp Fund is for Newnham graduands, current graduates or past students who intend to practise at the Bar. Students need not have studied Law, but evidence of serious interest in the Bar, such as participation in mooting competitions or mini-pupillages will be expected. Applications are made in June. The Johnstone and Florence Stoney Travelling Studentships are for clinical medical students going abroad for their elective period. For further details please contact the Tutorial Office.
Study Visits
Teachers in schools and colleges (including FE colleges) can apply to come to Newnham for a short period of study and informal contact with the College.
