Local groups and year repsNewnhamRoll MumsFriday 11 November saw the official launch of NewnhamRoll Mums - a new group for alumnae mothers and those interested in motherhood giving members the opportunity to come together to discuss issues relevant to the modern parent, make new friends and receive support from others in similar situations. College will host an annual lecture for the NewnhamRoll Mums to be given by someone who has worked in or written about issues relevant to modern mothers. Members will be invited back to College to attend this talk and to enjoy drinks or a meal and to network with each other. The inaugural lecture was given by Newnhamite Penelope Leach (NC 1956), eminent psychologist who writes extensively on parenting issues from a child’s perspective. Penelope gave a very interesting and thought-provoking talk entitled 'Babies and Brains'. The talk was attended by over 70 Newnhamites who then took part in a lively debate. We are very grateful to Carl Homer for recording the lecture and turning it into a podcast for us which you can listen to below. Next year Allison Pearson, the author of I Don’t Know How She Does It has agreed to deliver the lecture; details will follow. If you would like to find out more about NewnhamRoll Mums and how to get involved with future activities, please email Kate Wilson. You can also follow her on Twitter at Rollmumskate, or read her blog.
