Older and wiser: how women over 50 are making their mark

***Please book at this link before September 1 (tickets are free).***

By 2020 a third of Britain’s workforce will be over 50. Government figures show that approximately 34,000 people aged over 50 start an apprenticeship every year, with more than a third finding jobs in business, administration and law. Many more women take up Non Executive Directorships, public appointments or charity roles at this important juncture in their careers. This panel discussion with the three Heads of House and alumnae from each of the three women’s colleges will explore how women can, and are, taking advantage of the next phase of their lives; often changing direction and making valuable contributions to society in ways they might never have anticipated when they were younger.

This panel discussion forms the second in a new series of events being hosted by the three women’s colleges at Cambridge. Professor Dame Carol Black, Principal of Newnham, Dame Barbara Stocking, President of Murray Edwards and Jackie Ashley, President of Lucy Cavendish (all of whom became Head of their College after the age of 50) will share their own personal experiences and will be joined by alumnae who have made equally interesting decisions. We are keen for guests to contribute their own thoughts and views from the floor.

Following the highly successful event held at Murray Edwards last year, this event will be hosted by Newnham in the Lucia Windsor Room. The discussion will run from 4pm – 5pm and guests are invited to drinks afterwards until 5.45pm.
