ApplyingOffersAt Newnham, we very much welcome your application, and will treat you as an individual. Please do get in touch, if you have any questions. We are more than happy to talk through your individual circumstances. We encourage students of all races, faiths and social backgrounds to apply and we are deeply committed to access. However it is important to understand that the application process is competitive and our assessment is entirely impartial. We base our admissions decisions on your academic achievement and potential. So we consider all elements of your application:
Any offer to an applicant who has not yet taken A levels would be conditional. Almost all successful post-examination applicants receive unconditional offers. We welcome applications from students taking three A2-Level subjects just as much as applications from students taking four A2-Level subjects or more. Most conditional offers are made on the basis of predicted A2-Level (or equivalent) grades. Offers vary according to individual circumstances, and it is therefore difficult to indicate in advance the precise combination of grades that will be set. The standard A level conditional offer made by the Cambridge Colleges is A*AA. The subject in which the A* is to be achieved is unlikely to be specified in most cases. At Newnham, in a limited number of cases, non-standard offers may be made, appropriate to particular circumstances.
The standard offer for Medicine will not be lower than A*AA. Offers in Mathematics will be based on A2 Mathematics and AS or A2 Further Mathematics (or equivalent) as well as STEP (see the Faculty Website for more information).
Typical offers:
We are experienced in making offers on other examinations such as the French Baccalaureate, the German Abitur, etc. If your qualifications are not mentioned here, then please contact the Admissions Office for further details.
You must make sure we know about any special circumstances that may affect your examination results as soon as possible. Every year we make slightly more offers than we have places, because we aim to admit as many applicants as possible on merit. Naturally, all applicants who achieve our offer conditions will be given a place. There may be some flexibility for applicants who have narrowly missed their offers, but this flexibility is limited.
For detailed information about a particular subject, please consult our subject pages. |
