"You can generally get involved with whatever you want in Cambridge, but having the Old Labs performance space in your own back garden is an opportunity it's hard not to use." Daisy Allsop

Thinking of studying Mathematics at Cambridge? Newnham is holding a special mathematics open morning on the same day as one of the Faculty of Mathematics Open Days. Newnham undergraduates will give you a tour of the College, and you can join Newnham Mathematics students and staff for lunch, before going on to visit the Centre for Mathematical Sciences.  In the afternoon, the Faculty will organise a series of short lectures intended to give sixth formers an idea of what it is like to study mathematics at a high level.

Teachers and parents, note that places are limited to 4 girls in Year 12 per school/college. Please ensure that your students have met the criteria in the ‘Who can apply’ section.  To avoid disappointment, we encourage early booking.

Applications are welcomed from girls in Year 12 who are considering studying Mathematics at Cambridge. You must ensure that you have chosen appropriate AS/A2 subjects for your chosen course – for Mathematics it is essential to be taking A-level Mathematics and at least AS-level Further Mathematics; Further Mathematics and Physics at A2 are highly desirable.

Subject Taster Days

For the past few years we have held a number of these events in February/March. Each day includes information and advice on applying to Cambridge and contact with current undergraduates, as well as a number of sample teaching sessions on one or more subjects offered as degree courses at Cambridge. In 2012 the subjects covered were:

  • Anglo-Saxon, Norse & Celtic; English
  • Architecture; Engineering; History of Art
  • Classics; Philosophy
  • Geography
  • Human, Social & Political Sciences

They are an excellent way of finding out more about a particular Tripos and deciding whether it would suit you. We hope to run more Subject Tasters in 2013 - watch this space!
