School Liaison InitiativeLink AreasEach College at the University of Cambridge is responsible for a specific area of the country through the Area Link scheme, whereby most of the Cambridge Colleges are linked to one or more Local Authorities. Newnham College works specifically with:
We are also very keen to work with schools and colleges directly, in order to encourage students to consider Higher Education in general and Cambridge University in particular. As part of our outreach activities we normally work with students from Year 10 onwards (mostly Y12) and with teachers, careers advisors and parents. We are able to organise a wide range of events that is tailored to the needs of the local area: Curriculum SupportWe may be able to give subject lectures and masterclasses, designed to support and enhance the material already being covered in schools.
Y11/12 VisitsActivities include Q&A sessions on HE and subject choices, tours of the College and Cambridge, mock Cambridge lectures, talks on applying to Cambridge, and group sessions with undergraduates.
Y10 Taster VisitsWe run day visits to Cambridge for Y10 students. The purpose is to introduce Higher Education, to give information about the career options available to graduates, to motivate students for GCSE, to inform their post-16 subject choices, and to introduce Cambridge University. Activities include HE talks, tours of the College and Cambridge, HE & Cambridge University quiz, etc. This does not mean, however, that we restrict our activities only to these areas. We are more than happy to work with any school or organisation that is interested in Cambridge and in Newnham. |
