Newnham hosts Wikipedia edit-a-thon to help make the internet less sexist

Newnham College will mark International Women’s Day with a mass edit-a-thon to address the lack of online biographies available about eminent women.

Wikipedia is the seventh most visited website in the world – but only 15 per cent of Wikipedia editors are female and fewer than 17 per cent of notable profiles are of women.

The Wikipedia Women in Red project has spent two years addressing the lack of entries for women and Newnham has now joined forces with the world’s largest encyclopedia to help.

On Wednesday, March 8 from 12pm-6pm a public edit-a-thon will be held at Newnham College, the women’s college at the heart of Cambridge University, to encourage people to create profiles for notable women to help make the internet less sexist.

We would love for you to play a part in changing this by taking part in the edit-a-thon.
