Philosopher Dr Sophia Connell, Newnham Bye Fellow and Director of Studies, has been commended for her ‘exemplary and tremendous’ teaching.

Dr Connell, pictured, has been named as one of the recipients of a Pilkington Teaching Prize in recognition of her commitment to the University of Cambridge’s teaching mission.

The judges said: “The academic achievement of the students in her care is exemplary. She has been described by students as ‘constantly encouraging’, ‘engaging, knowledgeable’.”

The Pilkington Teaching Prizes were established in 1994 by businessman and alumnus of Trinity College, Sir Alastair Pilkington. The aim was to ensure that excellence in teaching at the University was given proper recognition.

Dr Emma Mawdsley, Fellow, College Lecturer and Director of Studies in Geography, is also set to receive a Pilkington Teaching Prize in recognition of her outstanding contribution to teaching.
