Principal made Honorary Fellow of Hong Kong College of Physicians

Newnham’s Principal has been made an Honorary Fellow of the Hong Kong College of Physicians for her ‘distinguished achievements and services transcending medicine and humanity’.

Professor Dame Carol Black travelled to Hong Kong for the ceremony at the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine Jockey Club Building.

Dame Carol was President of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) from 2002 until 2006, the RCP is the professional membership body for physicians and has more than 32,000 members and fellows around the globe.

The citation for the Honorary Fellowship read: “Professor Black championed the role of the acute physician and promoted integrated working with General Practitioners. She pioneered the work on medical professionalism which has been widely followed up ever since. Her leadership won her friends all over the world, including Hong Kong.”

Dame Carol has served as an adjudicator for the annual Richard Yu lecture since 2013 for the Hong Kong College of Physicians.

The citation added: “In recognition of her most distinguished achievements and services transcending medicine and humanity, the Hong Kong College of Physicians proudly confers upon her an Honorary Fellowship.”
