My research focuses on environment and development issues in Africa, particularly in the drylands of southern Ethiopia and northern Kenya. I examine how agricultural and pastoralist landscapes are produced and reproduced, and the impact of social and environmental change on livelihoods. Recent work examines the changing nature of mobility and territoriality in the drylands. It also examines the potential impacts of climate change on communities, and policies directed at climate change adaptation.
