Professor of Classics

I work on many aspects of Roman and Greek culture: religion, sex & gender, art and literary history; and I am particularly interested in the reception of Classics in the modern world. My books include "The Invention of Jane Harrison" (2000) and "The Parthenon" (2002). I have recently co-curated an exhibition ("From Ancient Art to Post-Impressionism") at The Royal Academy in London. I am also Classics editor of the Times Literary Supplement.
