College Open Days

Attending an Open Day is one of the best ways to get a feel for the College and learn about life studying and socialising here.  Our Open Days are relaxed, friendly and helpful: you’ll meet some of our current students and Fellows, and hear directly about what it’s like to be at Newnham and Cambridge.

We run several Open Days throughout the year, and take part in the University’s wider Open Days each July.  These open days are primarily aimed at sixth-form students who are considering applying to Cambridge and would like to know more about the University, the Colleges, courses available, and the admissions process.

Please note that as Newnham is a women’s college, these events are for women only.

Travel arrangements

Maps and directions can be found here.

Open Day Travel Fund

The University of Cambridge has established a travel fund to enable young people in (or previously in) care to travel to Open Day events organised by the University and Colleges of Cambridge. Further information is available on the University website.

Newnham College also has a travel fund for students currently eligible for Free School Meals to attend College Open Days.  If you would find this helpful, contact the Admissions Office for more information.

Parents/Guardians

We are keen to meet as many prospective applicants as we can through our Open Days, which unfortunately means that we are unable to include parents and guardians in the main programme. However, our events include parent/guardian-specific sessions, and parents and guardians are welcome to explore the College grounds.

Newnham College September Open Day - 14 September 2019

Join us at Newnham College for our September Open Day, where you will have the opportunity to speak to admissions staff, academics and current students about your application to University of Cambridge.

On the day, attendees will also partake in an admissions workshop, run by Dr Sam Lucy (Admissions Tutor). This will offer practical advice and guidance on:

  • Finalising your personal statement
  • Exploring your subject

  • Interviews: what to expect and how to prepare
