Wikipedia, the collaboratively-edited online encyclopedia, is one of the world’s most popular websites. It’s widely used as a reference work, and shapes people’s ideas of the world around them.
However, Wikipedia (like many conventionally-produced reference works) significantly underrepresents women. Less than a fifth of Wikipedia biography entries are on women, and less than a tenth of contributors identify as women: we’re aiming to change that.
We want to create 150 new entries about influential women of the past and those making a difference today – especially women of colour, those from the LGBTQ community, those working in STEM subjects, and on sustainability and environmental issues. New entries might be in English, or in other languages, or you might like to translate an existing page into another language.
You don’t need any previous experience of editing Wikipedia to join this friendly, informative and practical training session. It will help you take your first step on your Wiki editing journey, build on your existing knowledge and research skills, and help you present complex ideas for a general audience,

Dr. Alice White is a Digital Editor and Wikimedian-in-Residence at Wellcome Trust; her work involves helping people to share their knowledge online. Before joining Wellcome, she did a PhD in the history of science and has also worked as a researcher and teacher.
