In the 1880’s, Kathleen Lyttelton, the wife of the first Master of Selwyn, joined an active community of university wives and women students who were passionate about social issues, higher education and suffrage.
Twelve of these friends joined the ‘Ladies’ Dining Society’, described by John Maynard Keynes as a “remarkable group”. Kathleen Lyttelton was, with her friend Millicent Garrett Fawcett, a lifelong fighter for the cause of women’s suffrage.
This talk will highlight their work, which changed Cambridge forever and extended far beyond college walls.
