Newnham’s Student Life Skills programme

Now, more than ever, we can all see the importance of ‘soft’ skills such as dealing with change, managing the fear of failure, and identifying your own strengths. Each year, Newnham’s Life Skills programmes support our students in developing these skills.

This term’s Life Skills programme is moving online, in a new flexible approach in response to the current demands on people’s time.

Courageous conversations – a Life Skills workshop for Newnham students
Friday, 29 January 4-5pm OR Tuesday, 2 February 5-6pm

Do you find it difficult to raise issues sometimes? – possibly with other students who have different views or different lifestyle habits than you do, maybe with friends or family, maybe with project teams or even with your supervisor. Or maybe you find it easy to raise issues, however the conversation doesn’t always go as you had hoped.

Being appropriately assertive, giving and receiving feedback, and having courageous conversations are important life skills. This one-hour interactive webinar will give you some tools to engage in these tricky conversations with more confidence and ease, making a positive impact and developing relationships.

The free webinar is a Newnham Life Skills seminar, supported by the College and run by alumna Karin Horowitz. Karin facilitates life skills, leadership and well-being workshops across many sectors including education, government and business. She read English at Newnham as an affiliated student and went on to complete a PhD. She regularly provides careers support and coaching to Newnham’s undergraduates and graduate students, and is a member of our Honorary Associates.
