Biography

Dr Delphine Mordey researches music and political culture, focusing on the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

She completed her BA and Master of Studies in Music at St Peter’s College, Oxford, before moving to King’s College Cambridge for her PhD on music in Paris during the Franco-Prussian War, Siege and Commune (1870-1871). She originally joined Newnham as a Junior Research Fellow, and is now Director of Studies and Special Supervisor in Music, and Director of Music for the College.

Delphine Mordey was awarded the Faculty of Music’s Teaching Prize in 2015 and 2019

Research Interests

Dr Delphine Mordey’s research and teaching centres on music of the late nineteenth century, and early twentieth century. She has a particular interest in the interface between musical and political culture, and the political role of opera, especially in France.

Her articles, reviews and translations have appeared in 19th-Century Music, Music and Letters, Cambridge Opera Journal, Fontes Artis Musicae, Music Analysis, and Cultural and Social History.
