Biography

Professor Gabriela Ramos is a social and cultural historian of Latin America, particularly the Andean region

Born in Lima, Peru, she obtained her BA and Licenciatura from Catholic University, Peru. She then took her MA from Columbia University, New York, and PhD from University of Pennsylvania.

Profesor Ramos has been a member of the History Faculty at Cambridge since 2003.

Research Interests

Gabriela’s book, Death and Conversion in the Andes, Cuzco and Lima 1532-1670, was awarded the Howard F. Cline prize for its contribution to Latin American History.

Her particular interests include religion, culture and politics in colonial Spanish America, especially the Andean region.
