Dr Yanyu Guo researches Chinese linguistics, language acquisition and multilingualism.
Dr Yanyu Guo obtained her BA and MA in Chinese linguistics at Renmin University of China (2010) and Peking University (2013) respectively. She continued to study linguistics at the University of Cambridge and completed her PhD in 2017.
She is now a research associate at Cambridge, working on an AHRC funded research project – “Multilingualism: Empowering Individuals, Transforming Societies” (MEITS)
She teaches Mandarin Chinese for undergraduate students at Cambridge.
Dr Yanyu Guo is currently a research associate at Cambridge, working on an AHRC funded research project -“Multilingualism: Empowering Individuals, Transforming Societies” (MEITS). Her post-doc MEITS project examines the potential roles of age, typological differences and linguistic experience in the acquisition of Mandarin Chinese sentence final particles by English- and Cantonese- speaking learners who learn the language as a child/adult. She is also a member of the University of Cambridge-Chinese University of Hong Kong Joint Laboratory for Bilingualism (JLB), which aims to establish an international platform to promote research on the acquisition of Chinese in bilingual or second language contexts.
