Gardens

Newnham’s huge gardens are some of the loveliest College gardens in Cambridge and are open to everyone to enjoy – whether you prefer digging or relaxing, bird-watching or picnicking. In fact, the gardens are one of most loved things about Newnham.

Newnham’s gardens to be lived in as well as looked at. Unlike some other colleges, Newnham students can walk on the grass, and the gardens are shared by everybody who works here. The gardens are also open to the public, most days during the year.

The gardens include lawns, a wildflower meadow, a rose garden, an orchard, a swing seat, and much more.

We also have allotments and a thriving student-run Garden Club, which has been working on a permaculture garden for students to grow their own fruit, vegetables and herbs.
